Astrophotography in Dayville, OR

About a month ago, I snuck off with Lilith Van Dyke to a small cottage nestled in the black skies of Central Oregon to take photos of the Galactic Central Core. We also visited the John Day Fossil Beds and got our nerd on with rocks.

Here are a few of those nighttime skies.

Every time I go out into the dark, I always pick up some new bit of information that makes my photos better.

Lilith is in silhouette from the citronella candles near the car. She did her photography using her phone's astrophotography features and they turned out simply stunning.

All three of the photos were processed as a stack, or many exposures of the same area of the sky layered together and composited to get the best visual information.

This was a fine way to spend the second weekend in June.
